This was given to a forester by a land owning family (Junker (pronounced yunker) ) from 19th century Germany. Here is my 19th century Longines pocket watch. What is cool about it is that it is not the bluetooth setting like other watches (Casio) but it requires pointing the camera flash at the dial and it sets it by using old school morse code flashes The GMT line is my favorite of the VHP models because you can use an app to quickly set the time. In fact Longines and Tissot (with it's classic models such as the 1936 model) are coming out with cool stuff while Omega is coming out with endless Moon commemorative Speedmasters and Bond Seamasters (which are boring as crap and over priced) In the last 10 years Longines has been dipping into their historic vault and bringing out classic watches such as the Big Eye, 1967 Chrono, Legends diver and the other Heritage models. Once Swatch Group bought the company in the 1980's the company produced good but bland watches.
Look at any old pics of a baseball stadium and it had a large Longines clock on the scoreboard.Įven to this day you can email Longines with the serial number of a vintage watch and they will tell you how old the watch is and where it was sold. In the old days Longines/ Witnauer was among the most prestigious watch companies. Longines is one of the oldest continuous running watch companies. I think Longines perceived "lack of innovation" is due to the Swatch Group and its tiers that its brands should be following.
